Bunches and Stems Flower Care Guide

Your Flower Care Guide

A little love and care will help your beautiful blooms last much longer. Follow our general tips below, and find specific advice for your flower type to keep your arrangement vibrant and happy.

General Tips for All Bouquets

Most flowers benefit from these simple steps upon arrival:

  • Give Them a Drink: Your flowers have been on a journey and are thirsty. Let them hydrate in a vase of fresh, cool water for at least 6-8 hours to perk up.

  • Trim the Stems: Use a sharp pair of scissors or a knife to trim 2-3cm off the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle. This helps them absorb more water.

  • Remove Lower Leaves: Gently strip any leaves that will sit below the water line in your vase. This keeps the water clean and prevents bacteria from forming.

  • Use Flower Food: Add one packet of the provided flower food to your vase of fresh water. This gives your blooms the nutrients they need to thrive.

  • Keep Them Cool: Find a nice spot for your flowers away from direct sunlight, heat sources (like heaters or appliances), and ripening fruit, which releases gases that can shorten their life.

  • Refresh Regularly: For the longest life, re-trim the stems and completely change the water every 2-3 days.

Care for Specific Flowers

Here are some extra tips for some of our most popular blooms:

Roses (Both Long-Stem & Sweetheart)

Our stunning roses are sourced from the world's best growers and our trusted local partners. After following the general tips above, remember to gently peel off the outer "guard petals." These are tougher petals that we leave on to protect the delicate inner bloom during transit.

Australian Native Flowers

Our beautiful and hardy natives are unique. They generally prefer a shallow vase of water and are less reliant on flower food than other bloom types. Many native varieties also dry out beautifully, allowing you to enjoy them for months or even years to come.

Lilies (All Varieties)

Your lilies will likely arrive as closed buds to ensure they last as long as possible. They will begin to open beautifully over the next 1-3 days. As the blooms open, you can gently remove the pollen-dusted stamens from the centre to avoid staining clothes or furniture. This is also a helpful tip for households with pets.

Gerbera Daisies

Each gerbera stem often arrives with a supportive straw. It's best to leave this on, as it helps their heavy heads stay upright and look their best for longer. Gerberas love clean water, so be sure to refresh it every couple of days.

Tulips

Tulips are fascinating because they continue to grow in the vase. You may notice them stretching and bending towards the light, which is part of their natural charm. Re-trimming their stems every couple of days will help them stay hydrated.

Sunflowers

With their bright, heavy heads, sunflowers do best in a tall, sturdy vase that can support their naturally arching necks. They are thirsty flowers, so make sure they always have plenty of water.
